Not at all surprising that the press is trying to paint Ehud Olmert as whiter than the driven snow. However, the bottom line is that the former Prime Minister of Israel is now a convicted criminal! Presumably he will now try and form a new political party with similar gentlemen - Haim Ramon and Aryeh Deri. They could call it the Justice Party.

Abba Eban was right
Abba Eban once said that the Arabs "never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity". Yesterday they proved how correct he was.
With the American president here to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel, Hamas held their own rally in Gaza to mark the same event - only they call it the "naqba" (the tragedy). At this event a senior Hamas spokesman stated that Hamas would NEVER recognise Israel - a wonderful start to any negotiations. Then, as if to prove his point, a few hours later a rocket came over from Hamas-controlled Gaza and landed in Ashkelon, right in the middle of a clinic during surgery hours. Over 70 people were injured, including a mother and baby who were seriously wounded.
If it was up to me, I would give the civilian population 24 hours to get out of Gaza (to Egypt) and then I would systematically start to reduce the entire Gaza strip to rubble.

Has it really been a year?
Yesterday saw the first memorial service for all those killed during the second Lebanon war. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert could not find time in his busy schedule to attend. I'm still not sure whether this is a good thing or a bad thing...

About time...
I actually registered this blog almost two years, but the catalyst that made me decide to start posting was Tony Blair's resignation. On the one hand, I'm glad that the UK has finally entered the post-Blair era. On the other hand, I'm not sure that Gordon Brown is a big deal for a replacement. But the real bad news, as far as I'm concerned, is that for some strange reason he thinks that he is now going to bring peace to the Middle East. He must be joking. The last thing the West in general and Israel in particular needs is British appeasement. Hopefully, he will soon realise that he doesn't belong here. He should go and joins his old pal Bill on the mega-bucks lecture circuit. If he doesn't know how it works, I'm sure that Cherie can help him.
